I’ve been asked to design & paint a Friendship Stop for a school playground.
I hear you ask “What’s that?”
Well, it’s a bit like a bus stop, apparently children who do not have a playmate can wait by it in the hope that their playground buddies will notice and invite them to play along in their game.
When doing my research I found out that you can also get Time Out stops and Peer Mediation stops too ……… ha ha… I could do with those at home for my kids.
Anyhow, an old wooden sign was given to me to transform. Children from years 3 & 4 were asked to design the sign. The children came up with some colourful ideas and finally I decided to use characters drawn by a few of them for the finished sign.
I typed the wording on the computer which I then traced on to the wooden sign along with the characters. The wood was primed and painted with acrylic colours. Two coats of yachting varnish were applied to protect it.
I think it looks really good, lets hope though, that the children don’t really need to use it!
