It’s posible to keep kids entertained for ages with Jackson Pollock inspired painting. Luckily for us we had a lovely day when we decided to do this activity and set things up outside. Vibrant gouache paints were watered down into a ‘fat free milk consistency’, ideal for flicking.
The bigger the paper the better, on this occasion each child had their own ‘canvas’ but I have taught this activity with very long pieces of paper (from a roll is ideal) and lots of children have added their ‘flicking’ and ‘dripping’ creativity to it.
The children had a look at Jackson’s work from a book and we spoke about his techniques. It was great to see the children having fun, even so, they took their painting seriously, adding spots of colour to their paper in a thoughtful way. It was magical to watch.
